Evening of International Song and Dance

The show started with beautiful renditions of classical Indian singing by Sangeet, in which we were given a glimpse of the richness the eastern culture has acquired through its history. It was followed by religious performances of Praise Gospel Choir. The transition from eastern to western traditional elements in a matter of minutes just exemplified what was to come later. The show continued with heartfelt covers of a Nepali love song and a Pakistani song by the duo of Samik Adhikari and Animesh Singh.

Following their traditions of previous years, The Haitian Student Association, The Indo-Pak-Nepal Club, A Taste of Africa Students Association and The Asian American Student Union all presented their cultural dances in front of the audience. A Taste of Africa Students Association danced to the traditional songs from Nigeria, Zambia and Ivory Coast. The beats from the Bhangra number of Panjabana once again took us to the cultural roots of India and Pakistan. The atmosphere turned more playful with a beautiful Nepali dance by the Indo-Pak-Nepal club as the dancers swiftly moved through different folk songs. Horo, a traditional Bulgarian line dance performed during weddings, new year and national holidays, was performed elegantly by a group of Bulgarian students. The constant cheering the dancers received showed how the audience were enjoying the mixture of traditional moves from around the world.
